What this index measures

There is no generation data for fusion because no commercial fusion plant exists. The EnergyIndex Fusion Readiness series is being designed to score public, verifiable milestones — pilot-plant timelines, regulatory licensing progress, announced capital and power-purchase agreements — so the first number we publish is one you can check.

Who uses it

  • Researchers and students following fusion programs
  • Investors and journalists tracking announced timelines
  • Utilities and data-center operators signing early offtake

Methodology

  1. Pilot-plant construction and first-plasma timelines announced by developers
  2. Regulatory licensing progress with the U.S. NRC and international counterparts
  3. Disclosed private and public capital committed to fusion
  4. Signed power-purchase or offtake agreements
  5. Peer-reviewed performance records (energy gain, sustained plasma)

Scoring weights and the first readiness level will be published here after review. Until then this page carries no number — only the rules we intend to score by, so you can hold us to them.
